“I studied ceramics at university, not because I couldn’t paint or draw but because I liked to construct. As a fibre artist I am fascinated by the properties of fibre and push at their perceived boundaries. I create for the body, the mind and spaces.”

Made by hand
One pair of hands, natural fibres, and a question.
Nine years ago, fate led Fiona to an abandoned wool factory near Gouveia. That meeting ignited a relationship with wool and other fibres that continues to thrive and challenge — drawing on landscape, story-telling and theatre, and the recurring question of containment.

“the best textile exhibition I have seen”
I visited your exhibition today and now I understand why you told the gallery that you are tactile as well as a visual artist. Your piece based on Plato’s quote was so moving.
